Commissioners of Claims letter 1779.

This letter, from Martin Jollie, James Robertson, and William Telfair to Lt. Colonel Archibald Campbell, dated Savannah, April 19, 1779, is a photocopy of the original in the Public Record Office, London. The letter discusses the Commission's difficulties in compiling the number of appropriated homes and data on personal property. It explains that the writers are sending the minutes of the Commission Board to Campbell, and that they hope that he will take charge upon his return from England.

The Commission of Claims was established in 1779 by Governor James Wright of Georgia. Its purpose was to oversee the appropriation of real and personal property belonging to those who sided with the Americans during the Revolution, and to care for the appropriated property.
